Artist Statement
I’ve always felt at home in the outdoors. Whether roaming the prairies and badlands of southeast Alberta or the foothills and the Rocky Mountains of western Alberta, or more recently the forests and shoreline of Vancouver Island, I find stimulation and inspiration that leads to artistic engagement.
I’ve been blessed by educational opportunities and the opportunity to participate in the artistic adventures of students. My career as an art teacher began in senior secondary schools in Calgary. When I felt a need to pursue an MFA program I spent two years at the University of Washington. Following that I taught visual art and graphic design at Medicine Hat College. Further study at the Ohio State University led to a PhD in Art Education and from there to a wonderful career as a professor at the University of Victoria. Now happily retired and more active than ever in my studio.
